This policy covers the SonicAura desktop application for Windows 10 and Windows 11, distributed by Edenware, and the pages under edenware.app/sonicaura. It explains what the app reads to draw its effects, what leaves your device, what is stored locally and how to delete it.
In one paragraph: the effects react to your screen, to the audio your PC is playing and — only while you turn it on — to the timing of your typing and to the activity of AI coding assistants. All of that is measured in memory and never written to a file, recorded or transmitted. The only things that leave your machine are the license activation and the payment itself. There is no account, no telemetry, no advertising and no cross-app tracking.
1. What is processed locally, in memory, and never stored
1.1 Screen pixels
Some effects create ripples, refraction or displacement from the image that is already on your screen. To do that, the app reads the pixels of the desktop from the graphics device and deforms them inside the effect.
- The pixels are used to render the effect and are discarded when the frame is drawn.
- Nothing is written to disk, and no image, thumbnail or frame is ever sent anywhere.
- While an effect that reads the screen is active, the app excludes its own overlay from the capture application programming interfaces of Windows (
SetWindowDisplayAffinitywithWDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE). This is a display behaviour, not a collection: the purpose is to keep the overlay from reading its own output, and it also means the overlay does not appear in your own screenshots or screen recordings while such an effect is running.
1.2 System audio (loopback)
SonicAura listens to the audio loopback of Windows — the same mix that is already going to your speakers. From that signal it measures loudness, energy, bass and treble content, note onsets and melodic direction, so the effect can follow the music.
- No audio is recorded, buffered to a file or transmitted. Only the measurements above are used, in memory, to drive the animation.
- The app does not use a microphone and does not request microphone permission.
- The measurements are not stored, not associated with a file name and not linked to any track, artist or service.
1.3 Keyboard
The typing layer installs a global keyboard hook, and only while that layer is enabled. The hook measures the instant and the position of the physical key, which is what makes the typing wave move.
- The character that was typed is never received by the app. There is no key logging, no text buffer and no history of what was typed.
- The hook is removed as soon as the typing layer is switched off, and it is not installed by default when the layer is not in use.
- Nothing about your typing leaves the process, and nothing is written to disk.
1.4 Activity of AI assistants
The AI activity indicator lights up while an agent is working. To do that, the app reads only the modification date and the file size of session files that these tools already write to disk (VS Code and Copilot, Claude Code and Codex).
- The content of those files is never opened or read.
- No file path, project name or snippet leaves the process — the indicator only needs to know that something changed in the last few seconds.
- If you do not use the indicator, no session file is inspected at all.
2. What leaves your device
2.1 License activation
When you activate a license key or validate your license, the app sends the Edenware licensing server two things:
- a device identifier — a hash derived from the machine name, the operating system, the architecture, the processor and the memory of the computer;
- your license key.
That is the minimum needed to bind one license to one device, to refuse a second simultaneous activation and to let you deactivate or reset the license when you change machines. The identifier is not used for advertising or profiling, is not shared with third parties and is not connected to your browsing or to any other application.
2.2 Purchases
- Microsoft Store — when you buy Pro through the Store, Microsoft processes the payment and holds the entitlement. The app only asks the Store whether the purchase exists on that device.
- Edenware checkout — when you buy through the site, the payment is processed by PayPal (international) or Mercado Pago (Brazil). Those providers receive the data necessary to charge you, under their own privacy policies. Edenware receives the confirmation of payment, the email address used at checkout and the app the purchase refers to, and uses it to issue and deliver the license key.
3. Files stored on your computer
The app keeps its own data in two places, both local:
%APPDATA%\sonic-aura\— preferences, installed effects,diagnostics.logandiap-trace.log(local logs used for troubleshooting);~/.sonic-aura/license.json— the license information that lets the app unlock Pro on this device.
Uninstalling the application preserves those files, so a reinstall keeps your settings. You can delete them at any time in the file explorer. You can also deactivate the license inside the app, which removes it from the device and revokes Pro access here; the deactivation is recorded on the licensing server so the license can be activated on another machine.
4. What the app does not do
- No account is required and none is created.
- No telemetry, analytics or usage statistics are sent.
- No advertising, no trackers and no profiling.
- No data is collected from other applications, no cross-app tracking is performed, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
- The app does not record your screen, your audio or your keystrokes.
5. Children
SonicAura is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The application itself does not collect personal data; the only information that reaches Edenware is the licensing and purchase data described in section 2.
6. Retention
License records — the license key, the device identifier, the activation dates and the email address associated with the purchase — are kept for as long as needed to provide the licensing and the support, and afterwards only for the period required by law or by the payment providers. Local logs stay in your %APPDATA%\sonic-aura\ folder until you delete them. Data that is measured in memory, described in section 1, is never retained at all.
7. Your choices and your rights
- You can deactivate the license and delete the local files at any time, as described in section 3.
- You can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of the licensing and purchase records that identify you by writing to contact@edenware.app. Deleting a license record revokes the Pro access associated with it.
- You can also delete the log files, or simply not use the typing layer and the AI activity indicator, which are the only features that need the permissions described in section 1.
8. Changes to this policy
If the app starts processing anything beyond what is described here, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date at the top will change. Continuing to use the application after an update means you accept the updated policy.
